Hillels of Memphis enriches the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.

A recent Pew Research report found that only 31% of American Jews belong to a synagogue.

Compare that to the more than 4 in 5 American Jews who attend college and the role of Hillel comes into focus; Hillel serves as the best way to reach young Jewish Americans at a crucial time in their life as they prepare to enter adulthood.

Hillel is uniquely equipped to serve this mission. We are the only non-denominational Jewish student organization. Hillel welcomes students of all backgrounds without judgement. At Hillels of Memphis we strive to provide an atmosphere accessible to all: our meals are strictly kosher, but students may bring whatever food they wish into our building. Similarly, we offer programming on Shabbat, but also provide free car service for students wishing to attend local synagogues.

A typical event may have an Orthodox day school graduate participating alongside a student who is only just learning about Judaism. It’s our mission to be a welcoming home to both students, and everyone in between.
